Maybe Mick wasn't as romantic as he could be. This was Dean's song for Mick, but notice when the saxophone plays, it's not as powerful of a moment as it could be. And he looks a little sad. Possibly Mick didn't want him to feel like it ok dat he bummed him as a child.

You know when you so depressed that you wonder what's real or what's just in your head. It's like he's patting the chair, like, is that even real? Was his feelings for Mick even real if they weren't requited?
