Sympathy for the Devil

So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste, mm yeah

He would get rid of anybody if I asked him. I knew he would. He wouldn't hesitate to get rid of Elvis if I asked. I always thought about who I would choose if I were to ask, but I soon realized I didn't even need to think too much about it.

The one person who was always kind of an eyesore to me. It was Dean who said he looked like old Jackie Coogan. Not when Jackie Coogan starred in a movie with Charlie Chaplin as a kid, but when Jackie Coogan became Uncle Fester on the Addams Family.

Yeah, I wanted to get rid of Brian. It was always on my mind. Every time he "ended up" in my eyeline, I thought about it. Every time he was difficult with us when we were trying to get an album out. Why couldn't he just disappear, I thought.

I would never get rid of him on my own. So I asked Dean to do it. It was supposed to be my Christmas present, I had told him, since I was so rich there was nothing else he could get me that I didn't have.  Rich people problems...

Have some sympathy! Brian was difficult! He was very difficult!

I was so fed up with him.

Then he was finally gone.

"Did he really drown, Mick?"

"Yes, he drowned. That's what happened. There's nothing else to it."

Should I be afraid? Dean actually went through with killing someone for me. I trusted him so much, yet now the power we had seemed to be too suspicious. Was it really that easy to get rid of someone and make it seem like an accident? I didn't do anything with my own hands. I just said a few words, and he was gone.

I spent more time with Dean after that. I owed him that for giving me the Christmas present I had asked for. But when it came time for us to go back on tour, well, I cried. I cried because I lost a friend. I lost a bandmate.

Have some sympathy for the devil.
